Longhorns football gets encouraging news from elite 2027 WR recruit

With the Longhorns looking to add some explosive offensive pieces to their 2027 class, they have been connected to some of the top recruits on the board. That includes wide receiver Julian Caldwell, who released his top 12 teams on Monday. Luckily for Texas, they were included in his latest update. With no commitment date set, the Longhorns have time to make their best offer.

As Texas tries to secure a commitment from Caldwell, they will have to beat out a few teams. The other programs on Caldwell’s list are Oregon, Oklahoma, Miami, Tennessee, Arizona State, Texas A&M, USC, Texas Tech, Washington, Notre Dame, and SMU. The fact that so many programs are vying for Caldwell’s services comes as no surprise.

Currently, the Texas native is ranked as the 15th best wide receiver in his class by 247Sports. They also rank Caldwell as the 15t best player from Texas and the 105th best player in the nation. That comes after a productive sophomore season in which Caldwell continued to see him role in the Argyle High offense grow.

During the 2024 campaign, the talented wide receiver hauled in 21 catches for 581 yards. He also found the end zone seven times while averaging 27.7 yards per catch. It was just a small sample size of how good Caldwell can be. If he were to commit to the Longhorns, those should be easy numbers to match.

While Texas has not secured a commitment from a player in the 2027 class, it has made offers to some of the top prospects still looking for homes. Adding Caldwell to the mix would give them an explosive weapon on offense with Dia Bell under center. The next step for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff will be to get Caldwell to campus for a visit.

Over the next few weeks, Texas will be a program to watch as Caldwell continues to evaluate his options.
