Sean Brady considers lightweight after loss to 'freak' Michael Morales

Sean Brady felt significantly smaller than Michael Morales at UFC 322.

Brady (18-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) suffered a first-round TKO to Morales in their welterweight matchup earlier this month in New York. The loss snapped Brady’s three-fight winning streak.

Although Brady has never really faced issues with physically imposing his will in the grappling, the setback to Morales (19-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) has him contemplating dropping down to lightweight.

“I’ve done testing at the UFC P.I., and I’m at the for max muscle mass at 170,” Brady said on his “BradyBagz Show.” “But my dimensions, yeah, I’m a smaller 170. If you look at everybody in the top right now, they’re all over six foot. That’s something I might visit at some point, is maybe trying to get down to 155. It would be very, very hard.

“It’s not a skill thing, it’s not a strength thing because I can out-strength heavyweights, but it’s a dimensions thing. I would stack up way better against guys who are closer to my height, closer to my size, and Morales is just a freak. I heard they weighed this motherf*cker at the back, and he was 210 pounds.”

Brady, No. 8 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie welterweight rankings, is most interested in avenging his first-career loss to Belal Muhammad next, but is also open to trying out 155 pounds. He doesn’t expect the transition to be a difficult one.

“Who knows, I might try to go to ’55. There’s a lot of good-ass matchups at ’55 that are potentially there, but also depends on what they want to give me at 170,” Brady said. “I walk around at 195, and I eat very clean, but I do eat a lot, and I eat a lot of whatever I want of healthy food. It won’t be a huge change, I would just have to walk around a little bit lighter and be a little bit more strict, but it’s not nothing I wouldn’t be open to doing.”
