The waiver wire can be tough at times, but this season, there have been plenty of options when there is a key injury to your fantasy football roster.
This week’s last-minute fantasy football waiver wire adds includes a potential fill-in starting role for a running back. It also features a returning player at tight end who is rostered in just 20% of leagues. It’s a Black Friday Fantasy Football Shopping Deal!
We have had some stellar standouts in our previous waiver wire adds, from Rico Dowdle to Sam Darnold, to Harold Fannin Jr., and more recently with Joe Flacco, Alec Pierce and Juwan Johnson.
For the following waiver wire adds, the player has to be owned by 60% of teams or less, and this week we go with one player at quarterback and one at each flex spot to add if you’re in a pinch ahead of your Week 12 matchup and potentially going forward.
Quarterback
Cam Ward, Titans: It’s Week 13. I haven’t mentioned Ward in here yet. However, the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft is starting to show some flashes. On the year, he has just eight total touchdowns, seven passing. Last week, against the tough Seattle Seahawks defense, Ward played very well in the loss. He completed 28 of 42 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown. He also used his legs for a season-high 37 rushing yards and another score, his first rushing TD of the season.
For fantasy manager’s sake, here’s to hoping there’s a better option, but Ward could be a depth waiver wire addition in case of injury down the stretch.
Running Back
Devin Neal, Saints: Even when healthy, it hasn’t been a good year for Saints starter Alvin Kamara.
With his status in question for Week 13, Neal could get a significant uptick in workload. The matchup is also juicy facing the Miami Dolphins. Kamara left the Saints’ loss to the Falcons last week with injury. Neal filled in with five catches for 43 yards and added 18 yards rushing on seven totes. If Kamara is out long-term, the Saints also have stronger matchups to exploit.
In the coming weeks, New Orleans plays Tampa Bay, Carolina and the Jets, making Neal an even more enticing pickup as a flex option.
Wide Receiver
Jayden Higgins, Texans: The large, big-bodied rookie wide receiver continues to generate more targets.
Higgins has been targeted seven or more times in each of the Texans’ last three games. At 6-foot-4, he is also a tough matchup in the red zone. Higgins snared his fourth touchdown of the year last week and had 38 receiving yards and four catches on nine targets. Higgins has had four or more catches each of the last three weeks and is a decent flex option going forward, it appears.
Tight End
Brenton Strange, Jaguars: We try not to mention the same player in waiver wire adds twice. However, an exception can be made for someone like Strange. The tight end returned from injury with five catches for 93 yards last week. He’s owned in just 20% of leagues but should continue to see that number rise.
Strange should also continue to see targets with Brian Thomas Jr. out for the Jaguars. Strange picked up right where he left off in his return as he’d been out since getting injured in Week 5. In Weeks 3 and 4, Strange had six catches in each game and then five in his return. Even if you’re not starting him, get him on your roster for depth purposes.
