What to know for Wellington-Elizabeth in CHSAA 2A football title game

It’s the first weekend of Colorado high school football state championship games.

The smaller classifications will battle it out for state titles in 6-man, 8-man, Class 1A and Class 2A football down at CSU Pueblo’s ThunderBowl.

It’s highlighted by a 2A showdown between No. 2 Wellington and No. 4 Elizabeth, as the Eagles try to claim their long-awaited crown after a controversial title-game loss last season.

The former Wellington High School won 6-man state titles in 1952 and 1953 and the school closed in 1964. The new Wellington High School opened in 2022.

Elizabeth is playing for just the second state title in school history and first since 2010.
