In just one year, the Chicago Bears‘ offensive line went from their biggest weakness to quite possibly the biggest strength of their entire team.

This offseason, the Bears invested heavily in the offensive line, trading for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, and signing center Drew Dalman in free agency. The front office also added in the NFL draft, using two picks on offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo (2nd) and interior lineman Luke Newman (6th). Chicago made a real effort to put together an offensive line unit that can only help the growth of quarterback Caleb Williams.

During his rookie season last year, Williams was sacked 68 times, the third-highest in NFL history. Now, through the first 12 games of 2025, he has been sacked 19 times. That’s a significant improvement in one season under first-year head coach Ben Johnson, and ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky says Chicago’s offensive line is the best in the NFL.

“They would be an offense I would not want to play against if I was in the NFC,” Orlovsky said on ESPN’s Get Up. “Their offensive line is in the conversation for the best offensive line in football. When it comes to the run game, no one has pushed around Philly the way the Chicago Bears did. They’re pushing defensive linemen into defensive backs, that’s not common in the NFL. Their ability to scheme you up, waste defenders with their motion run game, and the double teams in their running game. This offense running down the ball on early downs, is a problem.”

Averaging over 153.8 rushing yards per game, the Bears have the top rushing attack in the entire NFL, and a big reason for that is the improvement of the offensive line. There is still plenty of room to grow for the offense, but the rushing game turned it around after the early bye week this season, and once the entire offense can put it together, the Bears will continue to increase their potential.
