Bucs' Baker Mayfield earns average grade for Week 13

The play of Baker Mayfield may not be getting MVP discussions anymore, but he is playing well above most quarterbacks around the league. The former number one overall pick remains at home in Tampa Bay and has shown he can be the rising tide that raises all ships in The Bay.

Of course, with a new week’s performance under his belt, there is time to reflect. One person doing that is Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski, as he has dropped a new batch of quarterback grades for the new week of games after Week 13. The former Heisman Trophy winner earned himself a serviceable grade of a B.

He explains, “Baker Mayfield is back to being Baker Mayfield, and all is right with the world. After suffering a shoulder injury to his non-throwing side, doctors cleared Mayfield this week, then he helped lead the Buccaneers to their first victory since before Halloween. Tampa Bay had been ravaged by injuries, but the recent returns of wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. and running back Bucky Irving provided the team’s offense with a boost. Godwin posted a season-high 78 receiving yards, while Irving led the team in rushing during his first game back. The Buccaneers may not be exactly where they were earlier this season, but they’re close.”

Mayfield didn’t blow anyone away with his performance, but as Sobleski points out, he is back to being himself. As the Bucs offense continues to heal up, things are only going to get better for him. All year, we have not seen the top four receivers for the Bucs play together, and yet he has been at a near-MVP level.

So lets give Mayfield a group of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka, and Jalen McMillan and see what happens.
