There are nights when the shots aren’t going to fall. That’s basketball. Then there was Tuesday night in Lexington, where the Kentucky Wildcats shot an abysmal 1-of-13 from three-point range in a 67-64 loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Kentucky went over 10 minutes without a made shot at one point in the second half, and it contributed mightily to the outcome of the game.
In addition, the Tar Heels out-rebounded the Wildcats 41-30.
It was a very nip-and-tuck game throughout the 40 minutes. Both teams were plagued by foul trouble, and neither team could open up a lead in the first half. The game was tied 31-31 at the half.
Both teams struggled shooting all night. Kentucky missed 14 of its last 16 shots. North Carolina, on the other hand, closed the game by making five of their last seven shots.
MVP: Otega Oweh
Oweh looked like the player we all thought he would be coming into this season, Tuesday night. He did a little bit of everything, scoring 16 points to lead the Wildcats, and pulling down four rebounds, with two assists, two blocks, and two steals.
Too bad it came in a losing effort.
Kentucky vs. North Carolina Twitter Reactions
As you probably imagine, Twitter was having quite a night tweeting about Kentucky’s offensive struggles and the questionable officiating. The good news is we did get to celebrate the introduction of new head football coach Will Stein. He clearly has the fanbase dreaming big for the future of football in the Bluegrass.
Here are the best Twitter reactions of the night from Big Blue Nation.

The way Collin Chandler is playing… there should never a 5 minute span he is on the bench.
You need a breather but not 5 minutes of play

I love the defense that Kentucky is playing! Let’s go!

What are these officials doing? Two terrible calls in the final minutes of the first half.
— Tristan Pharis (@TristanUda) December 3, 2025
It’s clear that Kentuckys second unit is really behind the first unit.
I love Mark but the first unit needs to play as many minutes as they physically can!

There is nothing like a “REF YOU SUCK” chant from 20K at Rupp Arena

Haha, of course Brandon Garrison hits Kentucky’s first three of the game.

Give Otega Oweh his applause, he has really shown up to play today and is playing like the player we know he can be.

Caleb Wilson and Andrija Jelavic are going right at each other over and over again. I didn’t expect these two to be paired up, but AJ is winning the exchange most of the time.

Kentucky Basketball legend Tayshaun Prince is brought as the “Y” during the UK-UNC game!
He has some history with North Carolina. In 2001, Prince scored 31 points, including five consecutive three-pointers to open the game as the Cats went on to win 79-59.#BBNpic.twitter.com/SoUcchpFmI

Very nice of Jay Williams to glaze the referees.
Because they’ve been awesome tonight. 😐

Caleb Wilson isn’t doing much when Kam Williams is in.
I love the defense Williams plays!

Not having a point guard is not an excuse to go without a field goal over a 10 minute span against a ranked opponent on your home court.
Pitiful. https://t.co/pXztpQKsHa

For a team that was labeled as an “offensive juggernaut” preseason, their offense is not very pleasant to watch.

The story of why Kentucky fell to North Carolina:
• UNC shot 6/20 from three, while Kentucky went just 1/13
• UNC won the boards 37–27
• UNC grabbed 17 offensive rebounds to Kentucky’s 8
• UNC finished with 13 assists, Kentucky with 8
• Kentucky went more than 10…

+No game on December 2nd will ever be a must win.
+Tonight’s loss hurts…a LOT!!!
+Losing to all three Quad 1 teams you play is not good.
+Losing to three Top 16 teams doesn’t mean you stink.
+Kentucky is playing without 3 starters.
+Wins have to come eventually. All can be true
