5-star Tank Jones prioritized fit with commitment to Oregon Ducks

It would be difficult to find any position on the Oregon Ducks that translates better to the NFL game than the defensive line. After the Pittsburgh Steelers selected defensive tackle Derrick Harmon in the first round back in the April, the Ducks are now hoping to send edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei to the league in the same round.

Now, Oregon has someone from this year’s recruiting class who can potentially follow in their footsteps — and his name is Anthony ‘Tank’ Jones. The freakishly powerful edge rusher officially signed with the Ducks on Wednesday and he has the potential to be one of the best pass rushers in the nation.

Shockingly, Dan Lanning and his staff were able to steal the Alabama native away from the Alabama Crimson Tide, so Jones’ commitment to Oregon is one to celebrate.

Lanning took some time during his press conference today to speak about the newest Duck.

“I think this was like a great example of a place being a dream school for a player that really came to fruition for Tank and what he’s going to be able to accomplish here, but just again, unbelievable player that said, “Hey, I don’t care that it’s not close, right? Like, if this is the place that fits me. That’s where I want to be.”

The Ducks have over 20 new recruits to be excited about, but almost none of them have the natural-born talent that Jones possesses. It will be a joy to watch him work in Eugene over these next few years and hone his craft.
