Colorado Buffaloes to hire Brennan Marion as offensive coordinator

The Colorado Buffaloes have reportedly found their next offensive coordinator, hiring Sacramento State head coach Brennan Marion, according to CBS Sports. Marion spent just one season at Sacramento State, leading them to a 7-5 record in the FCS.

Marion has worked all over the country with previous stops at UNLV, Texas, Pittsburgh, Hawaii, Howard, William & Mary, and Arizona State. Prior to taking over at Sacramento State, he was the offensive coordinator for two seasons at UNLV, helping engineer an impressive turnaround.

After averaging 26.3 points and 5.54 yards per play in 2022, they scored 34.4 points and gained 6.13 yards per play in 2023, his first as offensive coordinator. They were even better in 2024, scoring 35.4 points per game and averaging 6.25 yards per play. Sacramento State scored 33.8 points per game under him, up from 29.3 a season ago.

Marion is set to replace Pat Shurmur, who was in his second season as Colorado’s offensive coordinator. Colorado scored just 20.9 points per game in 2025, the second-fewest in the Big 12. Head coach Deion Sanders reportedly took play-calling duties from Shurmut during the season, but it had little change to their production.

Their offensive struggles and inability to find a quarterback were a major reason that they finished the year 3-9, a major step back after they went 9-4 in 2024. Now, Marion will be looking to get them back on track with his signature Go-Go offense.
