Tim Settle’s season has officially come to an end.
According to multiple reports, the Houston Texans are placing Settle on the season-ending injured reserve after suffering a foot injury in last week’s win over the Indianapolis Colts. He is expected to have surgery later this week.
“Sad news, Tim was playing really good football for us and was having a really good season,” defensive coordinator Matt Burke said Thursday ahead of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. “Hurting for him and what he’s going through.”
The Texans have already made a corresponding move, claiming former Buffalo Bills cornerback Ja’Marcus Ingram off waivers. Ingram could be called in case of an emergency with the recent news of second-year defensive back Kamari Lassiter, who is dealing with a foot injury.

Settle was one of the better free agency finds in the DeMeco Ryans era, joining Houston last season as a replacement for the departed Sheldon Rankins. As the anchor of the interior defensive line, he recorded 24 tackles, six tackles for loss and five sacks while helping Houston clinch its second consecutive AFC South title.
This season, Settle once again was the anchor for Ryans’ No. 1 defense, starting in all 12 games while totaling 15 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack. Mario Edwards Jr. and Tommy Togiai are expected to see a majorirty of the snaps at defensive tackle come Sunday evening at Arrowhead Stadium.
Kickoff on NBC is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. With a win, the Texans are projected to be a 90 percent lock for the playoffs.
