The Hoddle of Coffee: Tottenham Hotspur news and links for Thursday, December 4

I began this hoddle by looking for other clubs that have birds on their badges. The typical answers came up – Liverpol, Brighton, Minnesota, Frankfurt, yada yada yada.

But – but! There is one interesting club out there that also has a connection with a rooster (not quite a cockerel, but pretty dang close).

Meet Atletico Mineiro, who play in the Brazil’s Serie A.

While their formal name is Atletico Mineiro, they are also commonly referred to as “Galo” – or “rooster”. Their mascot also looks like Chirpy’s evil cousin. While I couldn’t find a pic of it online, here’s a tifo their fans did one year:

Their mascot also was given a one-game ban in 202 for “intimidatory” behaviour during a derby game against Cruzeiro after it threw out its arm to prevent players from celebrating in front of their fans.

The next question is: What connections are there between Spurs and Galo? Not much. In fact, the closest I came was this transfer rumour that Kim McCauley posted about more than a decade ago. He went to Shaktar Donetsk that year. But if we really want to stretch the limits of “connections”, then you can say he was probably part of an Everton squad that played against Tottenham some time during 2018-2021.

They’re currently sitting 13th in the table, but it wasn’t too long ago that Atletico Mineiro won Serie A. And that’s pretty much all the fun facts I have for you about Atletico Mineiro today.
