Liverpool have been looking to sign a new England star for quite some time. We’re nearly there.

Homegrown stars count for double in Premier League and Champions League squads, there are certain quotas to meet. And given how successful the current England international side is under Thomas Tuchel, qualifying for the World Cup without conceded a goal. It’s time to make a move.

Given their reputation as being incredibly talented players, it’s often more difficult to sign them, especially when the tax of playing regularly in the Premier League is applied to the transfer fee.

However, the Reds have identified a way to secure one of the very best Englishmen for very little.

Guehi’s move edges closer

One star that Richard Hughes might consider is winger Morgan Rogers, who’s managed to set his season alight, scoring three goals and notching five assists in 21 games – after failing to deliver in each of Aston Villa’s first seven games. He’s a man in form, and he could replace Mohamed Salah.

Another from the Villians is Ezri Konsa, who has worked tirelessly to become one of the key players in Tuchel’s defensive set-up. The 28-year-old is in his seventh consecutive Premier League season, and his experience of playing in Europe over the last three campaigns makes him a possible option.

However, it’s always looked destined that Crystal Palace’s captain Marc Guehi would be the club’s preference, having asserted himself as one of the most underrated players available. He partners Konsa for England and his performances under Oliver Glasner have been absolutely extraordinary.

You couldn’t ask for a more reliable player, who leaves his heart and soul in the pitch, while staying composed in leading the defensive line, in addition to scoring crucial goals on the rare occasion.

Liverpool were desperate to take advantage of his contract situation last summer, and the late £35m approach made for him was nearly successful, before Eagles owner Steve Parish pulled the plug.

This summer, however, he’s set to be available as a free agent, and there’s also the chance for a cut-price deal to take place in January, if the Reds are willing to admit their mistakes from last time. Not having Guehi in the squad has cost Liverpool a lot of points. It’s necessary that we stop the bleeding.

Regardless of when the team finally look at bringing him to Merseyside, the problem that cost us last time was that Palace didn’t have a replacement for him. Per recent updates that’s no longer an issue.

Football Insider claim that West Ham defender Max Kilman is on the Eagles’ radar, now that he’s out of favour with Nuno Espírito Santo – despite the 28-year-old Englishman being contracted until 2031.

Meanwhile, it’s understood by TeamTalk that Atalanta star Odilon Kossounou is being ‘watched closely’ by Palace, with the invincible 24-year-old potentially set to be on the move again, even though he only joined the Italian side from Bayer Leverkusen last summer in a €20m transfer.

Names such as Ousmane Diomande from Sporting and Maxime Esteve are also being noted in the reports around potential Guehi replacements. There’s a lot of work happening behind the scenes.
