There is no greater proof of change than seeing Drake Maye and the New England Patriots flexed into a primetime spot over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
On Monday, the NFL announced that the Patriots’ Week 16 game against the Baltimore Ravens is moving to Sunday Night Football on December 21. The corresponding move was the previously scheduled game between the Bengals and Miami Dolphins now being scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
Things didn’t go as expected for the Bengals with Burrow being out for most of the season, and the team failed to overcome adversity in his absence. They are currently the third-worst team in the NFC North with a 4-9 record. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have been a walking disaster for most of the season. They have played better in recent weeks, but they are third in the AFC East behind the Patriots and Buffalo Bills with a 6-7 record.
As for the Patriots, they have gone from being one of the worst teams in the league to suddenly being tied with the Denver Broncos for the best record in the NFL. They are currently on a 10-game winning streak with an 11-2 record and a legitimate shot at home-field advantage in the playoffs.
The Ravens might be down on their luck, but quarterback Lamar Jackson in primetime against Maye and the new-look Patriots team makes more sense for the primetime slot.
