Warriors' Steve Kerr addresses Kuminga's DNP in win over Bulls

The Golden State Warriors secured a 123-91 win over the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, Dec. 7. The win took Steve Kerr’s team to 13-12 on the season and was its second in a row. However, that victory didn’t come without controversy as Jonathan Kuminga was glued to the bench throughout the night.

When speaking to the media after the game, Kerr answered the inevitable questions regarding Kuminga’s absence from the rotation. The veteran head coach used his media time to issue a challenge, not only to Kuminga, but to every role player on the roster: earn your minutes.

“Happens to everybody pretty much, other than the stars. Guys come in and out of the rotation, depending on who’s available, how the team is playing,” Kerr said, via ESPN’s Anthony Slater. ” This is how the league works. There’s always someone knocking down the door, trying to get your job. So, it’s on everybody to just compete, bring their best effort for the team. We’ve got a lot of guys doing that.”

Kuminga came into the game against Chicago on the back of a tough outing against the Cleveland Cavaliers. During the Warriors’ Dec. 6 win, Kuminga went 1-of-10 from the field, as he struggled to find his rhythm on the offensive end.

Golden State isn’t back in action until Friday, Dec. 12, when they will face the 15-8 Minnesota Timberwolves. It will be interesting to see whether Kuminga is back in the rotation for that game, or whether he’s destined to spend another night glued to the end of Kerr’s bench.
