Is Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love a Heisman finalist?

Unsurprisingly, Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back Jeremiyah Love has been selected as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Love will join Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza in New York for Saturday’s ceremony. Only one finalist wins the award.

Love had 1,372 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns on 199 carries. The junior from St. Louis also had 27 receptions for 280 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. His longest rushing touchdown went for 94 yards.

He did not lose a fumble all year long and only put the ball on the ground once. He was clearly Notre Dame’s best offensive player, if not best overall player.

Love will have a tough row to hoe — quarterbacks have tended to get the award in recent years, and Mendoza heads an undefeated Indiana squad while Sayin plays for an Ohio State team that has suffered its only loss at the hands of Indiana. Love also missed time in the season finale against Stanford with an injury, and when he returned to the game, he was removed soon after as Notre Dame rested its starters in a blowout win.

Love was also underutilized in the season-opening loss to Miami (FL) and occasionally had pedestrian yardage numbers in blowout wins as the coaching staff rested starters and gave the ball to backup Jadarian Price, himself a threat to put up big numbers. Still, Love had touchdowns in those games — he found the end zone in every game but one this season.

Notre Dame has seven previous Heisman winners. The last was wide receiver Tim Brown in 1987.

The winner will be announced Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, at 8 p.m. E.T.
