Dec. 9—BEMIDJI — The Bemidji State indoor track and field team’s Maggie McCarthy and Trista Bilden have been named to the NSIC preseason athletes to watch.
It comes ahead of the Dakota Alumni Classic hosted by North Dakota State, an invite that kicks off the Beavers’ season on Dec. 11.
Last season, McCarthy set a personal best in the mile (5:17.94) and 3,000-meter run (10:25.33).
“Maggie is heading into her senior year with the drive and passion to do great things,” head coach Mike Lynch said in a release. “I believe Maggie has what it takes to leave her mark in the NSIC. She is coming off an amazing cross-country season, which should set her up for a great start to indoor.”
Meanwhile, Bilden set her personal best in the indoor shot put (12.07 meters), weight throw (11.83 meters) and Javelin (38.02 meters) last season.
“Trista is a returning point scorer in the NSIC and is looking to grow in the conference,” Lynch said. “She is a tough competitor with a drive to be the very best version of herself day in and day out. Her hard work will do the talking in the end of February.”
In the NSIC preseason coaches poll, BSU tied for 12th place. Last season, the Beavers finished the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championship in 12th.
