NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – It has been a while since either Ascension Catholic or Riverside Academy have claimed championship gold.
But on Thursday afternoon, one of those title droughts will be snapped at the Caesars Superdome. The Bulldogs take on the Rebels for the Division IV Select championship as part of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Prep Classic.

Ascension Catholic is in the Prep Classic for the first time since back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2017-18. The Bulldogs are seeking their first state title since 1992, and the fourth in program history.
They come into Thursday’s championship game at 11-2. The No. 5 seed, Ascension Catholic upset top-seeded Westminster Christian, 45-14, in last week’s semifinals.
Riverside Academy is the No. 2 seed. The Rebels advanced to the Superdome after a 42-14 semifinal win against No. 6 seeded Ascension Episcopal.
With a win Thursday, Riverside will have won state for the second time in program history, previously having won it all in 2016.

– Riverside had 85 total yards in the opening quarter, while Ascension Catholic had 74.
FIRST QUARTER
– Riverside gets past midfield but nothing further. Rebels punt it back to AC, and the ball goes into the end zone for a touchback entering the final minute of the opening period.
– Ascension Catholic forced to punt on its second series. Riverside takes over near its own 45.
– TOUCHDOWN RIVERSIDE. Riverside goes for it on fourth down at the AC 46 on its opening series and more than rolls the dice – the Rebels roll sevens, on a 46-yard TD pass by QB Christopher Becknel to Jayden Obiewke . Rebels go 63 yards in six plays. We are tied up. (7-7 | 7:25, 1st)
– TOUCHDOWN ASCENSION CATHOLIC. On the opening series, running back Trevin Simon sprints 41 yards to the house. Bulldogs add the PAT. (Ascension Catholic, 7-0 | 10:05, 1st)
– Ascension Catholic converts on a fourth-and-short and the Bulldogs are past midfield.
– Riverside kicks it off to Ascension Catholic and here we go from the Dome. Short kick fielded by the Bulldogs and they set up shop at their own 40.
