Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs said he’s dealing with more swelling and limited range of motion in the knee he originally injured in New York on Nov. 16.
Jacobs didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday. He had a scan of his knee earlier in the week and the knee is structurally sound, but fluid build-up is creating pain and stiffness.
“I’m still taking it day by day right now,” Jacobs said Thursday. “I feel a lot better today than I did yesterday. Same thing I’ve been battling with the last couple of weeks.”
Jacobs, who missed a game in Week 12 after first injuring the knee, said the only remedy is rest.
Against the Chicago Bears last Sunday, Jacobs said the knee started to swell and felt stiff in the second half, and it “ballooned up” on him afterwards. Incredibly, two of his most important plays came late in the fourth quarter when he broke off a 21-yard run on 3rd-and-2 and then scored a 2-yard, go-ahead touchdown on 3rd-and-goal.
It’s unclear if Jacobs will be recovered enough to play Sunday against the Denver Broncos, but coach Matt LaFleur said his Pro Bowl running back is he’s doing “everything in his power” to be physically ready.
“I always plan to play. They have to come tell me I can’t play for me not to play. That’s where my head is, and I’m just realistically day to day right now,” Jacobs said.
The Packers will practice again Friday before releasing a final injury report on Friday afternoon. More than likely, Jacobs will be listed as questionable. Decision time will likely be Sunday in Denver, where the Packers must decide if playing Jacobs against an AFC opponent is more important than giving the injury more time to heal.
