South Bay Lakers recap: G League Lakers lose two in a row to Kings

On Sunday, the South Bay Lakers snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating the Rip City Remix, 141-130, in Portland, Ore., thanks to a huge scoring performance from Kobe Bufkin. They headed a bit south to Northern California to take on the Stockton Kings on Tuesday and looked to build a bit of momentum.

They fell behind 60-53 at halftime and staged a rally to tie the game at 84-all at the end of the third quarter. But the Lakers fell apart in the final quarter, scoring just 15 points and losing by a final score of 112-99. For the game, they shot 44.2% from the field and attempted only nine free throws.

The two teams battled again on Wednesday, and this time, South Bay found itself behind 57-36 at halftime. It was able to trim its deficit somewhat in the fourth period, but it ultimately lost, 110-98.

Bufkin had an inefficient 25 points in Tuesday’s game, and on Wednesday, he scored 29 points on 12-of-23 field-goal shooting. Forward Anton Watson had 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the first game while turning in 21 points on Wednesday. Guard R.J. Davis struggled with his shooting and scored a combined 23 points on 8-of-22 shooting from the field in the two contests.
