NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – One of the more anticipated games in the history of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Prep Classic finally takes place Saturday.
New Orleans-based schools Edna Karr and St. Augustine square off for the Division I Select championship at the Caesars Superdome.

Edna Karr’s Cougars are the defending Division I Select state champs and they are currently riding a 27-game winning streak. The Cougars stand at 13-0 on the season and are the No. 1 seed in the bracket.
In addition, Karr boasts several Division I signees, including defensive tackle Richard Anderson (LSU), while starting quarterback John Johnson has accounted for nearly 3,300 yards of total offense and 45 touchdowns.
As for St. Aug, the Purple Knights are in their first state title game since 1979. The No. 3 seed entering the bracket, St. Aug is 12-1 and finally made the title game with a semifinal win last week against perennial stalwart John Curtis Christian.
St. Aug also has a big-time quarterback in Vashuan Coulon, who has thrown for more than 3,000 yards and 40 TDs.
Karr has won the last three meetings against St. Augustine, including a 42-21 win in the regular season, which was the lone loss suffered by the Purple Knights.

SECOND QUARTER
– TOUCHDOWN EDNA KARR. Cougars go 34 yards in just three plays, capped by a 1-yard run from Tre Garrison and Karr is now up by two scores after scoring two TDs in less than two minutes. (Edna Karr, 14-0 | 8:05, 2nd)
– High snap on a St. Aug punt attempt forces the punter to run with it and he’s stopped well short of the sticks. Karr with another huge opportunity with the ball at the Purple Knights’ 34.
– TOUCHDOWN EDNA KARR. Cougars go just 18 yards in 5 plays, and end it with a 1-yard keeper by QB John Johnson. Brayan Castellon adds the PAT. (Edna Karr, 7-0 | 10:00, 2nd)
– Karr’s defense holds and St. Aug has to punt deep in its own territory. Cougars get excellent field position.
– Through one quarter, St. Aug has 79 yards of total offense while Karr has 66 total yards.
FIRST QUARTER
– Karr gets inside the St. Aug 5 and had a fourth-and-goal at the 1, but QB John Johnson is swarmed underneath by a host of Purple Knights for a loss, and the Purple Knights hold in the closing seconds of the period.
– INTERCEPTION KARR. Ian Gray catches a tipped pass in the backfield just inside St. Aug territory, and the Cougars are back in business.
– Karr ends up punting for the second time today and St. Aug gets the ball back.
– St. Aug gets past midfield before its opening drive stalls. Purple Knights punt it away and Karr returns it for an 85-yard TD, but it is called back due to a blindside block. Scoreless with 6:43 left in the first.
– Karr can’t take advantage of the tremendous field position and has to punt, but is able to down it at the 3, and that’s where St. Aug will start its opening series.
– Toe meets leather and we’re off and running from the Dome. Karr breaks off a long return and the Cougars are already in Purple Knights’ territory.
