Florida basketball vs George Washington live updates, score and highlights

Florida basketball will attempt to break a two-game losing streak when it faces George Washington at the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise.

The No. 18 Florida Gators (5-4) have suffered three of their four losses against teams ranked in the Top 5 of the USA Today Top 25 men’s college basketball poll (No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Duke, No. 5 UConn) by an average margin of 3.7 points.

Florida is coming off a 77-73 loss to No. 5 UConn on Dec. 9 at the Jimmy V Classic in New York City, after falling 67-66 at No. 3 Duke on Dec. 2 in the SEC-ACC Challenge.

“A shot here, a shot there in the last two games against really good clubs,” Florida basketball coach Todd Golden said, “We’ll build on it. I thought we were more efficient in this last game than we had been. I thought, process-wise, we did a lot of really good things and came up a couple baskets short. But we’re on the right track.”

George Washington is led by 6-foot-11 senior center Rafael Castro, who is averaging 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Florida junior forward Thomas Haugh has been the catalyst for the Gators so far this season, averaging 18.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

“He’s had a great year for us,” Golden said, “He’s the type of guy that is going to show up every night and win his matchup and do whatever he can to help the team win.”
