Julian Sayin wasn’t all that close to winning the Heisman, it turns out.
By now, you likely know that Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy, but it was a bit surprising to find out that the Ohio State quarterback finished fourth in the voting, meaning he probably nearly missed out on even making it to New York as a finalist.
Sayin received a total of 432 points, a far cry from Mendoza, who ran away with the award with 2,362 points, including a whopping 643 first-place votes. Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia finished a distant second with 1,435 total points (189 first-place votes), with Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love finishing third with 719 points, including 46 first-place votes. Saying received just eight first-place votes, less than the fifth-place vote getter, Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who tallied 17 first-place votes.

The good news for Sayin is that he’s just polishing up his redshirt freshman campaign and should be one of the favorites to win the bronze statue in 2026. First things first, though, maybe the Ohio State quarterback can use the result as motivation to go ahead and play at a high level to go on a memorable College Football Playoff run.
