Florida basketball split its two games this past week, taking a 77-73 loss to the fifth-ranked UConn Huskies on Tuesday before bouncing back with an 80-70 victory over the George Washington Revolutionaries on Saturday.
Clearly, the voters in the AP Top 25 Poll were unimpressed by the Gators’ showing this week, dropping the Orange and Blue five spots down to No. 23. They now sit between the No. 22 St. John’s Red Storm and No. 24 Virginia Cavaliers, with a 6-4 overall record to show for their efforts so far.
Compare that with the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, which docked Florida three spots down to No. 21 overall.
It has been a weird opening schedule for the Gators this fall, having played in six neutral court games — splitting them evenly — while winning all three of their home games and losing the lone true road matchup inside Cameron Indoor Stadium against the Duke Blue Devils.
SEC schools in AP Top 25 after Week 6
A total of seven Southeastern Conference schools cracked the AP Top 25 this week, headlined by the Vanderbilt Commodores all the way down at No. 13. After them are the No. 14 Arkansas Razorbacks, No. 16 Alabama Crimson Tide, No. 20 Tennessee Volunteers, No. 21 Auburn Tigers, No. 23 Florida and No. 25 Georgia Bulldogs, who snuck into the top bracket in this update.
The LSU Tigers (19) and Kentucky Wildcats (19) were the only other schools to earn votes.
