The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 15 contest against the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football has finally arrived, an exciting prime-time matchup that the Steel City brand of football can’t afford to lose.
To defeat Miami, the Steelers will need to focus on these three offensive keys to victory, from trusting in the experience of their wisest veteran wideouts to airing out the football on Monday night.
Lean on the veteran receivers
There’s no debating that the Steelers’ offense looked much improved last Sunday, specifically the receivers, with veterans 31-year-old Marquez Valdes-Scantling and 35-year-old Adam Thielen making their Pittsburgh debuts in Week 14. While the two wideouts are well past their prime, the leadership and experience both receivers brought to the Black and Gold was immeasurable, potentially setting up for a big game against the Dolphins.
Unleash Darnell Washington
Washington, as fantastic a blocker as he is a receiver, should be on the field as much as possible against Miami. Whether it’s using Washington to take some of the burden off fourth-string LT Dylan Cook, who’s set to receive his first starting opportunity, or just getting the ball into his hands, Pittsburgh’s offense needs to lean on their 6’7″ tight end on Monday night.
Take deep shots early and often
Pittsburgh’s passing attack turned the corner in last week’s win over the Baltimore Ravens, in large part to multiple intermediate to deep passes. DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin III both possess game-changing speed and should give Aaron Rodgers more than enough opportunities to air the football out en route to a Steelers’ Week 15 victory.
