Dolphins could have new starting QB when they face Patriots in Week 18

The Miami Dolphins could have a new starting quarterback when they face the New England Patriots in the regular season finale in Week 18.

On Wednesday, it was reported that the Dolphins are benching Tua Tagovailoa and promoting Quinn Ewers as the new starting quarterback in Miami, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This news comes after the Dolphins’ 28-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15.

That means the Patriots could be facing Ewers, not Tagovailoa, when the AFC East rivals battle it out a few weeks from now. The divisional title could be on the line in that matchup, depending on where things stand with the Patriots and the Buffalo Bills at that time.

Ewers appeared in one game this season against the Cleveland Browns on October 19. He went 5-of-8 passing for 53 yards. Now, he could be in line for a bigger role for the remainder of the season.

The Dolphins were on a four-game winning streak before the loss to the Steelers. One has to wonder what the change at quarterback will bring in the final stretch of the season.
