Troy Deeney has admitted he’s not a fan of Malo Gusto as he revealed why he doesn’t rate the France international.

Gusto has been back to somewhere near his best form this season, after a difficult campaign last time out in which he struggled for consistency.

Enzo Maresca has labelled Gusto as one of Chelsea’s main players, and he’s impressed at both right back and in midfield this season.

Gusto scored against Everton and provided an assist in arguably his best game in a Chelsea shirt since joining the club.

Danny Murphy said Chelsea were “blessed” to have Gusto, but that feeling isn’t reciprocated by Deeney, who admitted he doesn’t rate the Frenchman.

“I’m not the biggest lover of this fella if I’m being honest,” Deeney told BBC Sport.

“I can’t work out why I don’t rate him but I just don’t.

“But credit where credit it’s due, he scored a good goal and played well against Everton, who were poor.

“He seems to be stepping up. A goal and an assist. I have to be as fair as I can.”

The 22-year-old is reportedly in line to be offered a new contract, and has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring twice and registering three assists.

Reece James going from strength to strength

Whilst Gusto has impressed this season, Reece James seems to be back to his very best and completed three 90 minutes in the space of a week last week.

The Chelsea captain like Gusto has impressed at both right back and in midfield, and was rested for Tuesday’s win against Cardiff in the Carabao Cup.

The England international will find himself back in the starting line-up for Saturday’s big game away at Newcastle in the Premier League, and Chelsea don’t have a good recent record at St James’ Park.
