BATON ROUGE – Is Lane Kiffin going to retain Frank Wilson?
That’s been one of the biggest questions since Kiffin was hired as LSU football head coach at the end of November. It appears LSU fans have their answer as Wilson reportedly is expected to accept a position at Ole Miss, according to CBS Sports Tuesday night.
The Texas Bowl, which the Tigers (7-5) will face Houston Dec. 27 (8:15 p.m. CT, ESPN), will be Wilson’s last game at LSU.

Wilson has been serving as LSU’s interim coach since former head coach Brian Kelly was fired back on Oct. 26. He led the Tigers to two wins in their final four games of the regular season.
After being hired earlier this month, Kiffin has been busy filling out his first recruiting class at LSU while simultaneously filling out of his assistant coaching staff.
He has hired for nearly all of his assistant positions, retaining most of LSU’s defensive staff from last season headlined by defensive coordinator Blake Baker. On the offensive, Kiffin brought over offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. with him to Baton Rouge from Ole Miss, along with quarterbacks coach Dane Stevens, wide receivers coach George McDonald and tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator Joe Cox.
One spot he hasn’t yet filled is at running backs coach, which is the position Wilson has coached at LSU the last four years.
Earlier this month, Wilson said that he anticipated knowing what he future was going to be with LSU and the program following the conclusion of the Texas Bowl.
“For me and for coach Kiffin, it’s ‘let’s play this game on the 27th and we’ll go into those details later,'” Wilson said. “We just want to finish what we started with this football team. Give our undivided attention before transition happens.”
“Until then, nothing will necessarily happen in that regard. There’ll be opportunity there, what that lies, I’m not sure. But the priority is our current football team.”
