Broncos QB Bo Nix continues making NFL history

Denver Broncos quarterback has quickly solidified several places in NFL history, and he did so with another vintage performance against the Green Bay Packers in Week 15. Nix made history in several ways in the 34-26 win. Let’s go through all his accomplishments.

  • First, Nix moved into a four-way tie for second place for total wins in a quarterback’s first two seasons in the NFL. Nix ties Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck and Dak Prescott with 22 wins in their first two seasons. With one more victory, Nix moves into solo second place, and with three wins in the Broncos‘ next three games, Nix would own the NFL record. Nix would beat out his predecessor, Russell Wilson (24 wins) for that particular mark.
  • Nix also became the third quarterback in league to throw for four or more touchdowns in four games in their second season. The other two signal-callers to accomplish the feat are Hall of Famer Dan Marino, and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
  • Lastly, as it pertains to NFL history, Nix joins greatness as only the second quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 7,000 yards, 50+ touchdowns, and win more than 20 games in his first two seasons. The only other man to accomplish this feat was Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino.
  • From a franchise history standpoint, Nix and Co. now hold the second-longest winning streak in Denver history, matching the Peyton Manning Broncos in 2012, with 11 straight wins. The only longer streak was when Hall of Famer John Elway led the Broncos to a 13-0 start in 1998, a season which culminated in a Super Bowl victory.
  • Nix became the fifth quarterback in franchise history to throw at least 20 touchdown passes in consecutive seasons (and he was the 17th-fastest QB in NFL history to reach 50 passing touchdowns). Nix’s four games with at least four passing touches are the third-most by a quarterback through two seasons in NFL history and the third most in franchise history. Nix’s 23 passing TDs this season are tied for fifth-most in the NFL.

“He’s a great athlete, No. 1, but I’ll have to go back and truly sit back and watch the tape, but he made a ton of plays, Packers coach Matt LeFleur said on Sunday. “He made plays in rhythm, he played made plays off schedule. That’s what the great ones do and he played great tonight.”

Denver coach Sean Payton also had praise for Nix after his career day. “That’s a real impressive rush front, and to come out of that game with no sacks, thought we did a good job, we had a good protection plan,” said Payton. “He really made some plays with his feet, and he made some plays up in the pocket.”

Nix, on the other hand, deferred praise to his teammates. “The skill guys they balled today, and the O-line played as good as they’ve played since I’ve been here,” said Nix. “They kept me completely clean. They battled their butt off. They played with great tempo. They knocked them around as best they could, and I thought our guys responded because of it. We were able to get open, find some completions. Four different guys with a touchdown.”

Nix looks to continue his impressive play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in a playoff-type game in Week 16.
