Michigan State head football coach Pat Fitzgerald made a power move on Thursday, making waves across the conference, poaching Iowa’s longtime special teams coordinator LeVar Woods to be the Spartans assistant head coach and special teams coordinator.
This move is going to come as a surprise, as Woods was a foundation setter for Kirk Ferentz at Iowa at the turn of the century, before returning to Iowa City in 2008 to coach, following an NFL career. The man bleeds black and gold, but Fitzgerald has turned him to the green and white.
In a press conference on Thursday, Woods got emotional talking about Iowa, along with his departure to Michigan State:
