Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has taken on the mantle of his team’s No. 1 option on the offensive end of the court, and with that has come a lot of contact — and at least recently, foul calls. We say ‘recently’ due to the early-season controversy that saw the Georgia native get into a bit of an online war with the officials over a perceived lack of calls that seemed to be backed up in the numbers.
Those comments, made while streaming online for fans, may have made the situation worse for Brown in the short term, but the Celtics star has seen a more favorable whistle in recent weeks. Still, the topic of fouls in the NBA remained a popular one for Brown on his streaming session, a recent one focused more on the prevalence of selling contact in the league. “It’s like flopping is like acting, acting like you got hit, and you didn’t get hit,” said the Cal alum (via social media user DDG), breaking down the finer points between selling calls and outright flopping. “If you got fouled, you got fouled.”
As to who sells contact on the regular, Brown shared that “everybody does. A lot of offensive players do it. We’ve seen some of the great players do it and be hard … Luka (Doncic), (Nikola) Jokic, LeBron (James). LeBron is flopping.”
“So it’s the difference between drawing the contact and then flopping,” he added. “The reality is unless you flop, I feel like the officials won’t give it to you, you won’t get the call, you didn’t have to exaggerate— like low-key, like as tough as I want to make it out to be.”
“We know the NBA is entertainment. You might as well just work on your acting skills and just start flopping. I’m about to be on it, too, bro. Why not? Everybody else is doing it.”
