Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will visit Empower Field at Mile High in 2026.
The Colorado Rapids will host the defending MLS Cup champions at the Denver Broncos‘ stadium on Saturday, April 18, at 2:30 p.m. MT, the team announced Thursday.
The Rapids play their regular home matches at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, but they will host the Herons at Empower Field to celebrate their 30th anniversary, recognizing their inaugural match at Mile High Stadium on April 21, 1996. Tickets for the match will go on sale in January (view more details on the Rapids’ website).
Messi, 38, will be the game’s big draw as April will mark the first time he has played against the Rapids in Colorado (the two sides played to a 2-2 draw in Florida in 2024). An eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and a World Cup champion with Argentina, Messi arrived in MLS midway through the 2023 season after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Barcelona star won the MLS MVP award and the MLS Cup final MVP award following the 2025 season. He totaled 43 goals and 26 assists in 49 matches with Miami this year.
The Broncos‘ stadium will also host Denver Summit’s inaugural NWSL match on March 28, 2026. Peyton Manning is a minority owner of that expansion team.
