Barcelona have received encouraging news regarding Jules Kounde after concerns were raised during the recent La Liga encounter against Villarreal.

According to an update from AS, the club’s medical staff have ruled out any serious injury, easing fears of a lengthy absence for one of Hansi Flick’s most trusted defenders.

The concern first emerged during the match at the Estadio de la Ceramica, when Kounde suddenly went down clutching the back of his right leg.

The French international was clearly in discomfort and immediately signalled to the bench that he could not continue.

Given the way the incident unfolded, early reports suggested a possible muscle strain, with some inside the dressing room fearing the worst.

Nothing much to worry

Initial assessments pointed towards a strain in the back of his right thigh, and although further medical tests are scheduled for Monday, the mood immediately after the game was cautious.

At one stage, there was genuine concern that Kounde could be sidelined for three to four weeks, a scenario that would have been a major setback for Hansi Flick, especially given the defender’s importance.

However, a more detailed examination has since brought much-needed relief.

Barcelona’s medical team were able to confirm that the injury is not serious and that the situation was more of a scare than a genuine muscular problem.

While the discomfort was real and the player was forced off in visible pain, the damage is understood to be limited to a minor hamstring issue in his right leg.

Could be available for Super Cup

As things stand, Kounde is expected to be fully recovered in around two weeks. That timeline would comfortably allow him to be fit for the Spanish Super Cup.

There is even cautious optimism within the club that he could be available for the first match of 2026 against Espanyol on January 3, although no risks will be taken.

Barcelona’s coaching staff will closely monitor his progress day by day, with recovery and long-term fitness taking priority over any rushed return.

For now, the club can take comfort in knowing that what initially looked like a serious blow has turned into a manageable issue.
