The story of the Chicago Bears‘ 2025 season has been one of thrilling and late fourth-quarter comebacks, changing the narrative of a franchise that more often than not found themselves on the wrong side of heartbreaking endings.
With their improbable comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in overtime on Saturday night, the Bears put together their sixth fourth-quarter comeback of the season with quarterback Caleb Williams tying Peyton Manning for an NFL record for most comebacks for a quarterback under the age of 25.
Chicago’s belief in each other as a team also is a testament to the coaching staff around them, lead by head coach Ben Johnson, who has turned around the franchise remarkably in his first season with the Bears. After Saturday’s win over Green Bay, Johnson spoke about what has made this team’s resolve so “rare” and what he sees in them that keeps them in every game until the very end.
“Yeah, I don’t think I have been around a team that just when it’s this late in games just they don’t bat an eye,” Johnson said. “You don’t feel any despair on the sideline from any of the phases. You might feel it in the stadium a little bit. I could feel the fans kind of coming to life again once we got a little momentum going in the fourth quarter but our guys, they don’t miss a beat. They just keep plucking along and they know good things will come if we keep swinging away.”
The fourth-quarter wins for Chicago have become a staple of what has been an incredible turnaround from their five-win season last year, which saw the firing of former coach Matt Eberflus. Johnson was hired away from the Detroit Lions this offseason for his offensive excellence as a coordinator. But in his first opportunity as a head coach in the NFL, he is showing much more than just a skilled playcaller but a coach that has the full belief of the organization and the players on the field.
