Major updates on Patriots' TreVeyon Henderson, Kayshon Boutte injuries

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel shared major injury updates on running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte on Tuesday.

Both players went down with apparent head injuries in Sunday’s road win over the Baltimore Ravens. According to Vrabel, both players are currently in concussion protocol.

That leaves their availability for the Week 17 rematch against the New York Jets up in the air. There is a chance they could miss that game, which is a critical matchup that could have major ramifications in the AFC East divisional title race between the Patriots and Buffalo Bills.

If Henderson is out, the Patriots could look to elevate a player from the practice squad to work behind Rhamondre Stevenson and D’Ernest Johnson, who is currently filling in for the injured Terrell Jennings. The running back position has been battered with injuries all year long.

Boutte being out could mean more work for rookie wideout Kyle Williams, who hauled in a 37-yard touchdown pass against the Ravens. DeMario Douglas, who has been quiet in recent weeks, could also see more action.

Vrabel revealed that rookie guard Jared Wilson is also in concussion protocol. That could pave the way for Ben Brown, who signed a contract extension with the team on Tuesday, to potentially get the start against the Jets.

Injuries have been a lingering issue for the Patriots down the stretch, and it looks like they might have to continue overcoming them for another week.
