BOOM! Ohio State lands commitment from No. 1 player in the country

Boom! As Ohio State gets ready to take on Miami in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, Ryan Day and the Buckeyes got some outstanding news. DJ Jacobs, the No. 1 overall player in the country according to 247Sports, has committed to Ohio State.

A five-star prospect out of Roswell, Georgia, Jacobs is a freak athlete. Starring at Blessed Trinity Catholic, the edge rusher has already put up eye-popping stats and accumulated numerous accolades. He’s been named a MaxPreps All-American in his freshman and sophomore seasons and will most likely add the same honor for his junior year. In three years of high school football, Jacobs has accumulated 295 tackles and 34 sacks. 247Sports Director of Recruiting, Andrew Irvins, says the future Buckeye has “the size, speed, and strength to wreak havoc on Saturdays and then Sundays. Constantly destroys blocks with violent hands and a powerful lower half. Can shoot right past protection with his quick-twitch athleticism and impressive snap anticipation.”

Jacobs chose Ohio State over some of college football’s heaviest hitters, selecting the Buckeyes ahead of other finalists Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oregon. Jacobs’ father, David Jacobs, played on the defensive line at Georgia from 1999-2002. It’s a huge win for Ryan Day to pull yet another five-star recruit from the Deep South.

The pledge from Jacobs gives Ohio State nine recruits in the 2027 class and is now ranked as the No. 3 overall class according to 247Sports.
