Fans were thrilled after apparent USMNT World Cup jersey leaked

The soccer jersey designers over at Nike have a difficult job, especially when it comes to the U.S. men’s national team. Compared to national teams like Argentina, Croatia and the Netherlands, the USMNT lacks an iconic look to build every design around.

The design with the most potential, though, to serve as the USMNT’s identifying look came in 2012 with the “Waldo” kits. But despite fans clamoring for Nike to bring back the distinctive design, Nike has intentionally avoided just that.

Well, Nike may have finally listened to the fans.

With the U.S. set to co-host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, there has been plenty of curiosity around the yet-to-be-released USMNT kits. And on Monday night, we got our first possible look at what that design will be. Say it with me now: The Waldo’s are back!

In an article from the jersey-tracking site FootyHeadlines — which has a solid track record on accurate jersey leaks — the USMNT is expected to bring back a variation of the Waldo jersey design.

This version would have more of a wavy stripe pattern as opposed to straight horizontal stripes, and the white would be more of an off-white cream color than true white. The image that FootyHeadlines got a hold of also happened to be the USWNT kit with the four stars above the badge. But traditionally, the men’s and women’s teams share jersey designs in men’s World Cup years.

It’s neither confirmed nor official yet, but the leaked design had USMNT fans happy with Nike for the first time in years.
