After leaving the game early due to injury, Alabama head coach Nate Oats provided an update on guard Labaron Philon Jr. following last night’s matchup against Vanderbilt during his postgame press conference.
“He just had full-body cramps,” Oats said. “I don’t know. Played 19 minutes. Had to go back and get an IV, and couldn’t play.”
The star guard left the game in the second half and was unable to return at any point, as Oats revealed that Philon had “full-body cramps”. The former four-star recruit played just 19 minutes in the loss, as Philon’s injury was a pivotal turning point in the matchup.
Coach Oats and his staff will more than likely continue to monitor Philon’s status over the next 24 hours, as the Tide would turn to Aden Holloway and Latrell Wrightsell during Saturday’s matchup against Texas, should the star point guard remain sidelined.
Philon was credited with 18 points on 5-9 shooting despite leaving the matchup early. The sophomore guard has been nothing short of elite throughout the first few months of play, and Philon’s health could play a critical role in the Tide’s season moving forward.
Alabama will host the Texas Longhorns at Coleman Coliseum on Saturday night as the Tide will look to get back in the win column.
