Kewan Lacy gave Ole Miss an electrifying start offensively in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
The Rebels running back, who came in with over 1,400 rushing yards on the season, broke free for a 73-yard touchdown in the second quarter against the Miami Hurricanes to give his team the lead. However, celebrations became concern for Lacy soon after.

However, when it came time for Ole Miss’ next offensive drive, Lacy was absent. The ESPN broadcast showed the running back on the bike on the sideline, trying to warm up after reportedly tweaking his right hamstring.

Lacy did not return for the Rebels’ entire following drive, which resulted in a field goal, or the drive after that. Logan Diggs was in at running back in Lacy’s absence, and he remained in to begin the second half.
Ahead of the second half, Lacy came out of the locker room “a few minutes” after his teammates and was trying to warm up, per Chris Low.
After his treatment, Lacy then returned to action a few minutes into the second half with a wrap on his right leg.

After the game, coach Pete Golding implied Lacy was banged up rather than dealing with a serious injury. “There’s a difference between hurt and injured,” he told reporters. With Ole Miss eliminated, Lacy won’t have to see the field again until the start of the 2026 season.

Lacy exited Thursday’s CFP semifinal matchup after his 73-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
He did not return to Ole Miss’ offense on the following drive, with ESPN’s broadcast reporting that Lacy tweaked his hamstring and was attempting to warm back up on the sidelines.
Lacy later returned to the game wearing a sleeve over his right leg.
Ole Miss RB depth chart
| Rank | Player |
| 1 | Kewan Lacy |
| 2 | Logan Diggs |
| 3 | Damien Taylor |
Lacy has been a massive part of the Rebels’ offense all season, racking up 1,464 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground, plus 173 yards through the air. While quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been effective as a rusher as well, Lacy’s presence has kept defenses honest.
Without Lacy, senior Logan Diggs would be in-line for starting snaps. Diggs has also played for Notre Dame and LSU in his collegiate career; in 2025, he’s totaled 179 rushing yards and four touchdowns entering Thursday.
The only other running back to see significant work for Ole Miss in 2025 was Damien Taylor, a senior who totaled 1,010 rushing yards at Troy in 2024. So far this season, Taylor has totaled 130 yards and two touchdowns.
