The Martha’s Vineyard boys basketball team lost their season opener to their rivals Nantucket. The Vineyarders (6-1) have won six straight since then, including a 61-47 win over third-ranked (Div. 4) New Mission on Saturday.
Jacoby Light led the way with 33 points and five steals, while Connor Beeson had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Leo Napior (eight points, multiple steals) and Fletcher Zack (eight rebounds, four steals) also contributed.

Boys Basketball
Barnstable 70, Putnam Voke Tech 62: The Red Hawks (7-1) won their sixth straight behind 18 points from Josh Jenkins, who scored his 1,000th career point. Power Mendes added 15 points.
Nantucket 77, Gardner 57: The Whalers (6-2) won their third straight behind 23 points from Burke Lombardi and 21 points from Vallon Jeanty.
Boys Hockey
Bourne 6, GNBVT 0: The Canalmen (3-4-1) have won three of their last four after an 0-3 start to the season. Hope (two goals, two assists), Crowell (one goal, two assists), Carpenito (two goals), Seitz (two assists), R Kelly (two assists), McKenna (first varsity goal), Thomas (one assist), H McClain (one assist), Buckley (one assist) and Collins (one assist) led the Bourne offense. Jackson Palmborg had 25 saves in his third shutout of the season.
East Bridgewater 4, Nantucket 3: The Whalers (1-4) are on a three-game slide.
Girls Hockey
Boston Latin Academy 7, Nantucket 1: The Whalers (0-7-0) could not pick up their first win of the season. Sophia Yelverton scored the lone goal.
Falmouth 2, Martha’s Vineyard 1: The Clippers (5-3) won their straight at the expense of the Vineyarders (2-5).
