Broncos could learn playoff opponent as early as today

The Denver Broncos (14-3) are sitting out the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs this weekend with a first-round bye as the AFC’s No. 1 seed. They could learn their opponent for the divisional round as early as today.

The Broncos will host the AFC’s lowest advancing seed in the divisional round at Empower Field at Mile High on either Saturday, Jan. 17, or Sunday, Jan. 18.

Because the Los Angeles Chargers (No. 7) are the conference’s bottom seed, they would punch a ticket to Denver if they upset the New England Patriots (No. 2) on Sunday Night Football this evening.

If the Chargers lose and the Buffalo Bills (No. 6) beat the Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 3), the Broncos would host the Bills in the divisional round next weekend. Buffalo and Jacksonville will play at 11:00 a.m. MT today.

If the Chargers and Bills both lose today, Denver will host the winner of the Houston Texans (No. 5) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 4) game. Pittsburgh will host Houston on Monday Night Football tomorrow.
