The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday’s NFC wild-card round to eliminate the defending Super Bowl champions from the postseason. The other three fanbases in the NFC East (Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants) celebrated.
It’s not like Washington, Dallas, or New York would root for Philadelphia anyway, but it’s especially pleasing to the other fanbases when Eagles coach Nick Sirianni is served some humble pie.
Whether it’s taunting fans, arguing with his own players, or acting anything but an NFL head coach on the sidelines, Sirianni’s reputation among opposing fans was well earned.
God I love seeing Nick Sirianni lose

Every time Sirianni suffers an embarrassing moment or loss, this meme comes back to haunt him.

For Washington fans in particular, it’s personal. In 2022, when Sirianni was in his second season as an NFL head coach, he wore the jersey of Eagles great Mike Quick after the Eagles defeated the Commanders in Washington.
It wasn’t the jersey that upset Washington fans; it was his dismissal of two of the greatest NFL players ever, who happened to be Washington legends.
“Always was a Quick fan,” Sirianni said. “He had some great success here in Washington against, I think it was, I talked to him today, it was against Darrell Green. So, and then, uh, I am taking Mike Quick over Art Monk any day.”
Not only were Monk and Green legendary Redskins, but they are also two of the classiest human beings who’ve ever played.
What was the point of those comments? How many other previous NFL head coaches would do that?
Imagine trying to be so cool that you take needless shots at two of the classiest Hall of Famers in NFL history. Sweet jersey bro https://t.co/UR7rDmuZUD

When the two teams met again that season, the Commanders shocked the previously unbeaten Eagles on Monday Night Football, and Terry McLaurin didn’t forget, showing respect to Monk afterward.
Let’s not forget Week 16 of the 2025 season when Sirianni inexplicitly went for a 2-point conversion late in the game, already up 18 points against the Commanders. Dan Quinn was irate. So were Washington players.
Over the past few seasons, no NFL team has had a better roster than the Eagles. Sure, Sirianni, backed by two elite coordinators, won one Super Bowl, but it’s the ones that Philadelphia didn’t win that will be remembered.
The 2025 season ended for Washington last week. It was ugly and disappointing, winning only five games, including one over Philadelphia. Now, the Eagles will join the Commanders in “Cancun.”
Even Eagles fans are tired of Sirianni.
Here’s my emotional tweet of the night:
Nick Sirianni lucked into the Eagles job. He was NEVER good enough, but was fortunate that he lived through the greatest GM in football history building a LOADED roster. The 2024 team was dummy proof. The 2025 team needed coaching

Enjoy the offseason, Coach.
