Aaron Rodgers Calls Discussion Surrounding Mike Tomlin Decision ‘An Absolute Joke’

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that long-time head coach Mike Tomlin would be stepping down from his position after 19 seasons.

Speculation that this could be the coach’s final year with the team began long before the embarrassing 30-6 home playoff loss to the Houston Texans on Monday night.

However, through it all, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers always remained very publicly in the former head coach’s corner.

“The way that the league is covered now and the way that there’s snap decisions and the validity given to the Twitter experts and all the experts on TV now who make it seem like they know what the hell they’re talking about, to me that’s an absolute joke,” Rodgers said after the game.

Rodgers went on to say that any notion that Tomlin should have been on the hot seat is ridiculous from his point of view. But he understands how the front office came to the decision.

“There’s a lot of pressure that comes from the outside, and obviously that sways decisions from time to time, but it’s not how I would do things and not how the league used to be,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers made this indictment of the Tomlin decision before the team announced they would officially be moving on. Many believe this choice will be the reason why the future Hall of Famer is not with the team next year either.

“With Mike Tomlin now out with the Steelers, it is very hard to imagine that would be good news for Aaron Rodgers’s return,” NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport said. “Obviously, when you have a new head coach and have a full reset for an organization like the Steelers have never had, it would make sense to start over in all the places.

“To me — to my knowledge — this decreases the chances that Aaron Rodgers would be back in Pittsburgh.”
