LSU football receiver with elite speed transfers to SEC rival

A former LSU football wide receiver found a new home in the SEC — Jelani Watkins is now an Arkansas Razorback.

Watkins spent two years with the Tigers before hitting the portal. LSU saw a mass exodus to the portal on the offensive side of the ball as new head coach Lane Kiffin rebuilt the entire offensive staff. Practically every wide receiver, including Watkins, entered the transfer portal or declared for the NFL Draft.

Watkins signed with LSU out of high school in the 2024 class. Watkins was a four-star recruit and one of the best receivers in the state of Texas.

Watkins can fly. While he didn’t make much of an impact with LSU football over his two years in Baton Rouge, he excelled with the track team. Watkins will likely continue to participate in both sports at his new home.

After taking a redshirt in 2024, Watkins will have three years of eligibility remaining.
