One of the biggest issues for Notre Dame football this fall was its kicking game, as Noah Burnette battled a groin injury and couldn’t stay healthy, Marcello Diomede wasn’t let trusted enough to try a field goal then entered the transfer portal, and Erik Schmidt missed all three of his try’s.
It was a big time area of frustration for head coach Marcus Freeman, and he made it a priority to update the position in the transfer portal. He did exactly that late on Tuesday night, as Purdue kicker Spencer Porath committed to the Irish.
In his freshman season with the Boilermakers, he’d make 7-of-11 field goals with a long of 45-yards. This season was even better for Porath, as he connected on 15-of-17 field goals with a long of 53-yards. He was great from inside 40-yards in 2025, making all 9 of his attempts.
Notre Dame has made a big update in its kicking game, and while it might not be the flashiest commitment, it’s one of the most important.
