The Washington Commanders are in full-blown offseason mode. They’re looking for a few missing pieces on their coaching staff, and the rest of the focus is placed on the roster. Free agency and the trade window both open in March, and the draft is in April. One of the team’s biggest needs this offseason is a true edge rusher.
Preston Smith, Drake Jackson, Von Miller, Jacob Martin, and Deatrich Wise are all set to become free agents in 2026, and that doesn’t leave the Commanders with many options on the edge. They could look to draft at the position, or, as Bleacher Report suggests, they could trade for a veteran edge rusher from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Commanders Get: Edge Maxx Crosby
Raiders Get: 2026 first-round pick (No. 7 overall), 2026 fifth-round pick (No. 145 overall), 2027 first-round pick
There is belief around the league that Crosby is done in Las Vegas and that the Raiders are open to a trade. The problem they will have is that Crosby signed a 3-year, $106 million contract extension last offseason, so the Raiders will be restricted to teams that have a solid amount of cap space. The Commanders fit that bill, and they need an effective edge rusher to put opposite Jayden Daniels.
The issue with this particular suggestion is that there’s no way Adam Peters gives up two draft picks in 2026. Especially not the first-round draft pick because they don’t have a second-round draft pick. They won’t want to wait until the third round to make their first pick in the draft, nor should they. Would having Maxx Crosby in Washington be amazing? Absolutely. But this deal is not happening.
Perhaps one that makes more sense is pursuing Bengals edge Trey Hendrickson in free agency. Last offseason, the rumor mill focused on Washington and Hendrickson. This year, Hendrickson is a free agent. Signing Hendrickson would make more sense than a big trade.
