Darren Cahill wasn’t expected to be in Jannik Sinner’s corner for the 2026 Australian Open…
He had already said that he would be leaving Sinner at the end of 2025, but after another successful year in which Sinner won two more Grand Slams, plans changed.
Sinner has since reunited with his former coaches ahead of the 2026 season, as he aims to win his third consecutive Australian Open title.
But will Cahill remain with Sinner for the entire season? Sinner addressed this question directly at the Australian Open draw ceremony, responding:
Jannik Sinner confirms Darren Cahill’s return for 2026: “It’s great to share at least one more season with him”
Jannik Sinner will have Darren Cahill back in his corner this season, something the Italian is very much looking forward to.
“Yeah, it’s great,” he said. “We had a nice talk at the end of the year, last year. It’s great to share at least one more season with him.”
Sinner also credited Cahill for creating a calm atmosphere within his team and appreciated having an Australian coach while playing in Australia.
“He gives so much calmness, and I feel very safe with him in the corner. Not only me but the rest of the team. It’s special here, playing in Australia, with one Australian team member.”
His fans will be pleased that his coaching staff remains unchanged from 2025 and that there could be room for a longer-term partnership between Sinner and Cahill.
Australian Open draw has Sinner on collision course with Djokovic
Sinner’s path to a third consecutive Australian Open title won’t be easy, especially with Novak Djokovic lurking in his half of the draw.
If he is to win a third straight title in Melbourne, he’ll likely have to get through both Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in consecutive matches.
Before those potential clashes, early-round challenges could come from Joao Fonseca and Ben Shelton. But even so, expectations remain high for the world number one.
Sinner is still widely expected to reach the final, where another meeting with Alcaraz could be on the cards.
The two have completely dominated the sport lately. Between them, they’ve won each of the last eight Grand Slam titles and show no signs of slowing down heading into 2026.
It’s hard to call a potential final between Sinner and Alcaraz. But Sinner does have one particular advantage working in his favour…
Jannik Sinner has not lost at the Australian Open for three years
Sinner hasn’t dropped a match in Melbourne since 2023, when Stefanos Tsitsipas knocked him out in the fourth round. He’s since put together a 14-match win streak there, picking up two titles along the way.
He’ll look to add another win to that run when he faces Frenchman Hugo Gaston in the opening round of the 2026 tournament. This year’s main draw gets underway on Sunday, January 18th.
