Former Oregon EDGE Ashton Porter commits to Houston

Edge rusher Ashton Porter was among a string of defensive lineman from the Oregon Ducks to enter the transfer portal last week, joining the likes of Blake Purchase, Tionne Gray and several others.

On Thursday, Porter has reportedly found a new home with his commitment to the Houston Cougars, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Porter, a former member of the 2024 class, played in all 15 games for the Ducks this year, recording 20 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. In his career, he has 25 tackles, three TFLs and 1.5 sacks.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder was rated as a four-star coming out of Cy Ranch High School in Cypress, TX, and ranked as the No. 35 defensive lineman and No. 50 player in Texas, per 247 Sports.

Porter is the second former Duck to commit to Houston, as running back Makhi Hughes, who spent just one season at Oregon, also committed to the Cougars.

The departure for Porter came on the same day that both Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti, Oregon’s starting edge rushers in 2025, announced that they were foregoing the 2026 NFL draft and returning to Eugene for one more season.

Now, at Houston, Porter will have more of an opportunity to compete for reps — a common theme for each of the Ducks‘ transfers.

Porter will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
