Today is a big day for top Los Angeles Rams assistants.

Defensive coordinator Chris Shula, offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur and passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase will have nine total interviews today ahead of their team’s divisional round game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Shula will be interviewing with the Steelers, Ravens and Dolphins, LaFleur will be interviewing with the Cardinals and Raiders and Scheelhaase will be interviewing with the Browns, Steelers, Ravens and Raiders.

The NFL head coach hiring schedule is a bit wonky, so Friday was really the only time these three could have their virtual interviews before they traveled from L.A. to Chicago to face the Bears. Shula has more interview requests than these three, Breer added, but will likely have to wait until after the divisional round to conduct them.

Shula explained to reporters Thursday that the interviews haven’t taken away from his game plan prep, either. He said he went about his week normally, but will just “knock out some interviews” before going home.

“We wanted to do it after the game plan and stuff was over,” Shula said. “You really find that window of time,which is after that Friday practice. Normally, you would go home, so that would be the best time to do it.”

LaFleur added that the Rams are “first and foremost” and that he is focusing on his team and players first.

“I know these other clubs, they understand that too,” LaFleur said. “We have a job to do and I owe it to these guys to put my full focus on them. Interviews will happen, but I’m focused on these guys.”

In-person interviews cannot be conducted until Jan. 19, when all of the divisional games are over. So, depending on how these virtual calls go, this trio could be setting up more interviews in the future.
