New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte is looking forward to the matchup against the Houston Texans on Sunday. He spoke with reporters earlier this week about facing the Texans’ strong defensive secondary.
“I think they’re just physical cornerbacks. But at the end of the day, I’m physical too,” Boutte said, via MassLive’s Chris Mason. “So that’s a matchup I like every day of the week. …Derek Stingley, good cornerback. Played against him in college, last year too, but I look forward to the matchup.”
Boutte had a strong showing when the two teams met last season,
On one play in particular, he beat All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. over the top for a 40-yard touchdown reception. He caught three passes for 59 yards and a touchdown against what is now arguably the best defensive team in the NFL.
The Patriots went on to lose that game 41-21 to the Texans.
So much has changed since that first meeting. Drake Maye is no longer a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start, and the Patriots replaced Jerod Mayo with Mike Vrabel as the head coach. There’s also the fact that Josh McDaniels is back as the offensive coordinator.
Boutte and the Patriots have every right to feel confident against an elite Texans defense.
