Liverpool look to the transfer market as they begin planning for their future beyond the 2025-26 season.

Liverpool are weighing up several high-profile targets this year, especially after seeing their rivals Manchester City strengthen their forces in the transfer window.

After a quiet January window, Liverpool are already looking ahead to the summer market. The priority remains defensive reinforcements and a marquee midfield addition that can reshape the side under Arne Slot.

Liverpool turn to Alessandro Bastoni after Marc Guehi snub

Liverpool have turned their attention to Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni after pulling away from Marc Guehi, who is close to a Manchester City move.

According to TEAMtalk, Bastoni is open to a Premier League switch and is high on Arne Slot’s list of defensive options.

Bastoni, 26, is under contract with Inter until 2028 but could be available for around €80 million (£69.5 million).

The Italian international has found success in the Serie A titles and Champions League, and his left-footed balance and passing range would add a new dimension to Liverpool’s back line alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Eduardo Camavinga identified as €80 million target

Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has stepped up, with the club preparing an €80 million (£69.4 million) bid for the 23-year-old, according to Fichajes.

Liverpool believe Camavinga is an ideal fit for Slot’s system — a midfielder who can control transitions while adding physicality and composure.

Although his contract at Real Madrid runs until 2029, changes in management and the club’s evolving midfield depth could open the door to negotiations.

Nico Schlotterbeck also an option in defence

Alongside Bastoni, Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is another name under consideration.

TEAMTalk reported that the German international remains a strong alternative should Inter resist offers for Bastoni, with a transfer fee expected to be around £50 million (€58 million).

Schlotterbeck, 26, is considered one of the Bundesliga’s most consistent defenders and fits Liverpool’s focus on age and durability as the club plan for life after Van Dijk.

His aerial strength and composure in possession make him a valuable option as the Reds continue to prioritise defensive stability heading into the next phase of Slot’s project.
